The Character Book Tag

Thank you to T.K. Lawrence @Read It Or Not Reviews for tagging me to do this fun character book tag! This tag was created by Jeremysepicreads and MariaMuses and originally a BookTube tag.

Original Rules

  1. Pick 10 books off of your bookshelf.
  2. You must own the books.
  3. You must have read the books.
  4. No e-book versions.
  5. You can only use each book once to answer one question.

I am so sorry but I will be making an electronic version of this tag because unfortunately, I own more e-books than physical books. You can read why here.

The 10 books I have selected:

The Summer Queen – Elizabeth Chadwick

Malice – John Gwynne

The Iron King – Julie Kagawa

Heart’s Blood – Julie Marillier

Fireblood – Jeff Wheeler

Royal Wedding – Meg Cabot

The Sorcery Code – Dima Zales

Wild Seed – Octavia E. Butler

Kiera’s Moon – Lizzy Ford

Fables – Vertigo

The Questions

1. Who is the best kick-ass character?

Book used to answer this question: Malice by John Gwynne.

I could give so many different answers to this question, and I feel all of them would have been valid. In the end, I have decided to pick Cywen, Corban’s sister (Malice). This character, unlike most of the women in the book, is able to defend herself to some extent due to her dagger throwing skills. What I like most about this character is that she’s realistic. Cywen is not the typical ‘kickass heroine’, she has physical limitations and can’t beat every man. However, her strength of will is powerful, and she will always speak her mind…even if it gets her into trouble! Cywen is the type of girl who will always stand up and fight – even when the chances of winning are very little.

2. Which character do you most dislike?

Book used to answer this question: Kiera’s Moon by Lizzy Ford

I am sorry if you were expecting me to pick a villain. My choice is Evelyn, Kiera’s best friend. The only thing that is worse than being a terrible friend is being oblivious to the fact you are a terrible friend. With friends like these, who needs enemies?

3. If you could date any fictional character who would it be and why?

Book used to answer this question: Royal Wedding by Meg Cabot

I wouldn’t want to date any fictional character because well…it’s fictional! But for the purpose of the question, let’s say, if I was a fictional character myself, then my closest match would be Michael (Mia’s boyfriend, oh my God this sounds so wrong!)

4. If you could change a character in any way what would it be?

Book used to answer this question: The Sorcery Code by Dima Zales

I assume this would be a good time to pick an antagonist. However, I am going to pick an actual protagonist. I would change so much about Blaise, would give him clear motives and a sense of direction. His intentions aren’t as selfless as he claims them to be.

5. What character to you made all of the wrong choices that didn’t add anything to the book?

Book used to answer this question: Summer Queen by Elizabeth Chadwick

Louis of France? Just because I am not seeing any other options.

6. Out of the five books (you have left?) which character was the best villain whom you love to hate?

Book used to answer this question: Wild Seed by Octavia E. Butler

I’d say Doro, but he is much more complex than that, to even fit the ‘villain’ role.

7. Favorite sidekick character with the most heart?

Book used to answer this question: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

Definitely Puck. And about the heart, well, he will do anything to protect Meghan, that’s for sure.

8. What is your favorite fictional romantic relationship?

Book used to answer this question: Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier

Anluan and Caitrin are perfect for each other. I’ve read this book a long time ago, along with many others by Juliet Marillier. I am just sad I didn’t write reviews back then because this retake on the Beauty and the Beast was a very powerful one.

9. What character did you think was the strongest?

Book used to answer this question: Fireblood by Jeff Wheeler

Tyrus of Kenatos. Respect! It’s not so much about the physical strength but more about his demeanor.

10. Best protagonist?

Book used to answer this question: Fables Vol 1

Bigby! (YES, I am sure I didn’t mean to put him in the dating scenario instead!) I just really like this character, okay?

And I tag…

Everyone who wants to do this!
