Writing Diaries #6 – When it comes the time to promote your own story2 min read

When I first started my Book Blog, my main purpose was to share my love of reading, my humble thoughts, and my personal opinions. I’ve been lucky to have met so many great bloggers and authors along the way. I’ve had the chance to interview both indie and published authors, and accompany the writing journey of many. At the same time, as you know, I have started my own writing journey as well. I have started the first draft of my Fantasy novel, and I have attempted to write a few short stories.

Twenty Percent

twenty percentTwenty Percent is a short story that I have created in order to enter a very famous writing contest – Writers of the Future. I know what you are thinking, but if you are going to dream, you have to dream big! Hey, it doesn’t hurt to try, does it? More recently, I’ve planned to offer this short story as a digital gift to my email subscribers, a token of my appreciation. I’ve even created a cover, which I’ve advertised via Twitter.

For those who follow me on Twitter, the bad news is that this is not going to happen anymore – the short story (at least this one) won’t be offered to my email subscribers.

The good news is that the story will still be out there. I’ve submitted it to an anthology being published by Indie Authors Press – called Altered States II (you can check Altered States I here). I thought it was the perfect place for my first story: next to other stories of the same theme (cyberpunk / sci-fi) written by other indie authors. This is a big step for me, because this is the first time that something I’ve written is actually going to be out there.

What about the digital gift?

I still appreciate every single reader of my blog, and definitely will want to give something special to my email subscribers. I’ve thought of printables (since I am a Designer, I might put my skills to good use); how-to’s; guides; blogging; writing; tips about how to write or get book reviews; material targeted at bloggers; material targeted at writers; etc. At some point, there might be more than one freebie – but I still have to start somewhere. So, my dear readers, your help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know what type of material you’d like to receive when you subscribe to my mailing list.

Moral of the story

After having interviewed and promoted so many authors in my blog, I feel the time of promoting my own self and my own work is very near.

I hope you finish your own book soon. 🙂 I’m also an author. I’ve written 4 books so far. The latest was my first children’s book. Hope you can review it here in your blog. 🙂 http://www.handsonparentwhileearning.com/product/mommy-loves-you-just-the-same-childrens-book-e-book/

Thank you so much, I will definitely be offering review copies, so that’s great to know! I truly appreciate it 🙂

Way to go! I think it’s awesome that you started writing yourself and are following your dream! That’s great. When will Altered States II come out? I think you’re already giving all your readers a big present by writing the reviews and informing them about your own work! Have you already written more about twenty percent somewhere (like a plot etc)?

Thank you so much Carola! Altered States II should be coming before December this year, but I will keep everyone updated:) I’ll see if I can offer a few copies for review for bloggers. I have decided to not include a synopsis of Twenty percent, because it’s a bit tricky to write a synopsis of a short story without spoiling it, but let’s say it’s about an AI being who is ‘twenty percent imperfect’. Hopefully this is enough to pique your curiosity.

Way to go! It’s impressive that you wrote your own story & are following your dreams. That’s really great. When will Altered States II come out? I think you’re already giving all your readers a gift by writing your reviews and sharing information on how you’re writing yourself!

Good luck with the writing. And how great to get a story published in an anthology.

    • Nya on July 27, 2016 at 7:32 pm

Thank you so much Suzanne 🙂 It’s a big first step for me.

I’m so happy that your story will be in the anthology and I’m so proud of you. You deserve it, and even more. Your writing style is excellent and your imagination is incredible. Even though I have the chance to have the story and read when I want, I will definitely ask for a hard-cover of the anthology. The story is awesome and the cover is gorgeous. You really did an amazing job and I’m so lucky to have such an amazing girlfriend. I can’t wait for your book to be published now <3

Thank you so much. I am so lucky to have a boyfriend like you by my side, always supporting me and my dreams, no matter how crazy they might seem. But apart from my short story…When WE finish our novel, it will be OUR novel. And I can’t wait either. They do say that the most important is the journey. And we are having so much fun doing it. Thank you for everything <3

Good for you then! Publishing your very own is an achievement and a challenge. You can do this and I know you will because you are good in writing. Hoping to come across one of yours in the future

Oh wow! That’s like one of my secret ambitions… To be a writer. But apparently, writing don’t seem to love me that much. I have so much more to improve! Great job on this Nya! 🙂 Good luck!

For me this sounds like a success story going for the gold! It’s pretty rare for someone, an author like you to give back to your early followers. I’m sure everyone won’t mind you going for a real professional blowout release for your book, and honestly the title got me interested in it alone. Nice cover! I guess being a designer has its own real perks when it comes to the art style. Looking forward to your story!

Congratulations on publishing your own book. This is also a dream of mine. Actually, I am writing a story right now but I cannot focus my attention to it because I do so many things and honestly, not working on it makes me feel bad. So I read this post of yours and suddenly I'm inspired. Maybe I just have to push myself a little harder.

A company approached me earlier last month and I signed my very first book deal, so I am freaking out! I look forward to following your blog, I came by it for the first time today! Congrats on getting your book published, what a wonderful milestone.

Wow! congratulations on your success in creating your short story and I definitely agree on promoting our own work instead of the others. Though it’s not bad to promote other people’s work but if given the chance, promote yours too!

I admire people like you! Making the dream come to life is really hard but if you just go on the path, you’ll surely reach it. And I admire you for sharing book reviews that would enlighten people about certain genres and authors. 🙂

Congratulations on having your own story and self being promoted! I am so glad to know that you wrote a fantasy novel as i’m an avid fan of fantasies, i dunno why. I just felt a lil sad knowing that the digital copy cannot be sent as gift to your followers but on the contrary, i am happy to know that it actually stepped up and made you a certified author of a published fantasy-novel book. how i wish i could find a copy of it.
I absolutely agree with what you said that when we dream, we must dream big. 🙂
